I feel the desire to express how lucky I am in my life. I am in my final semester of college. I married an incredibly kind, understanding, funny, and smart man who will be accompanying me on the rest of lifes' journey (Not too mention attractive as well!). We are in the process of selling our home in the city and moving out to a better neighborhood. I have a good job which is remaining semi stable throughout this drop in the economy. I have a great, loving family which doubled in size this past Summer when I became Mrs. Poland.
Really I could continue on. But overall, I am thankful for everything that life has given me.
This coming weekend is TORONTO! I cannot wait. It is one of my absolute favorite places to visit. Although there are so many other places that I would like to go to eventually. This past weekend was great but went by too quickly, as they always seem to do now.
Last week I had to visit the new Burchfield Penney museum for inspiration in my poetry class. What a beautiful place! The white walls surrounding all of the beautiful paintings really accentuate the other colors present. The painting that really caught my eye was "Winter Sun & Backyards" by Charles Burchfield himself. Here is the poem I wrote about it:
Charles Burchfield, 1947. "Winter Sun & Backyards"
Cold, blistering winds rejoice and sing.
Who knows what this season will bring!
In the yard we stand,
amazed.
Shadowy rays -
of sunshine in the snow,
send happiness
into an otherwise gloomy present.
The trees are dancing,
Movement and expression in each branch.
It is calming,
It is peaceful,
Yet it can be so loud.
Cottrell's house is green -
with envy.
As the earth is dressed in sparkling white.
Burchfield showed in 1947,
there is much beauty in a Winter's night.
