It is very quiet today here at work. We found out that 300-400 people will be getting laid off today in the corporate offices. (Buffalo & Santa Ana).
This is extremely disturbing. No one had any idea that it would be so many people. Our director is holding a meeting at 2:30pm for us - should find out more then.
Yikes..

Weekend
I was fairly upset at the beginning of this weekend, as I found out that I'm going to have surgery on my pilonidal again. Wonderful.... It will keep me out of work for a week or so - but that isn't the worst part. These surgeries are awful. Because of the location, it really makes life difficult. I shouldn't complain, because I know people who are going through much tougher things right now. But still, it sucks.
This weekend, I have to say though ~ was fabulous! Friday night after work, Cam & I went to Texas Roadhouse for dinner. Unfortunately my appetite was not on par but it was still yummy.
Saturday morning we ran some errands and then picked Reagan up from the airport. It's always great to hang out with her! We then spent the afternoon in Lewiston, hanging out with the family. Nana was in town as well. Tristan and Makenna were over..which is always entertaining. They are such adorable kids. Makenna had this great winter hat on --- I can’t wait ‘til Cam and I start adding to our family. The variety of clothes that is available for infants and toddlers these days amaze me. I feel like when I was little, they didn’t have as much. Never the less, I’m really looking forward to being a mom some day. For as much work as kids are, the rewards heavily outweigh the difficulties. I know that Cam is going to be a great dad as well. Give us another year or so I think…
Saturday night we went to the casino as a last minute plan. We met up with Matt & Lisa – who are a lot of fun to hang out with. Cam played blackjack for a while and I hit a few slot machines. I came out of there with an extra $65.00 which I was happy about. It was absolutely packed in that casino though…I was getting frustrated because for the first hour and a half, I could not get at a machine!
Sunday was good. Cam and I went house hunting, and found one that we really liked. We actually put an offer on the Park house in Lockport ~* anxiously awaiting word back from Rachel on that. We spent the rest of the day in Lewiston. The Winbergs came to town and we made sushi! That was a lot of fun. Never did I think I’d learn to make sushi….let alone EAT it. It was delicious! I’m very glad that I finally got to meet Laura as well. She’s very smart and fun to chat with.
Today I’m at work all day, no classes today or tomorrow. Wednesday I don’t have work, instead I have a bunch of school related activities going on. I’m confident that this should be a good week.
I have been thinking about getting bangs. I usually get “side swept” bangs when I get my haircut but maybe I want something different? Mom Dee got her hair done and she has really cute bangs. I know they don’t look good on everyone though, so I’ll have to ask the stylist what she thinks when I go next time.
Try outs for anthem singers at the Buffalo Bisons games are coming up in April. I'm going to try out...why not right? I'm going to try out to sing at the Bills games as well. I think that'd be alot of fun plus it would get me out there, singing in front of thousands of people. Cam & I still have to hit up a karaoke bar one of these nights.

Poetry
For my writing intensive poetry class, our first assignment was to write 3 different poems using the same 20 words. After doing some brainstorming I was able to come up with something that I liked:
Poem 1:
Love,
to see your eyes smiling.
Look,
at me.
Kiss
my thoughts.
Dream..
our future.
Together.
Now..forever.
Never stopping.
Poem 2:
Now together,
forever.
Kiss my eyes...
smiling, love.
To see
your thoughts.
Dream. Me!
Never.
Look,
at stopping our
future.
Poem 3:
Smiling.
Dream.
Forever..eyes.
Stopping together.
Now,
my kiss.
See..
your thoughts.
Look never
to love.
At..
future.
Our.
Me.
I got some excellent feedback from Professor Fisher on my work. I used to write poetry all the time when I was younger, and this class is getting me back into it. Our next assignment is a sonnet and that should be interesting.
I'm also looking forward to my senior project with Dr. Norvilitis. Our meeting with the Buffalo school reps and Journey's End went well yesterday. My project is going to end up providing alot of useful information that will enable better education for refugee youth.

The Bus
Sometimes I wonder, how can people be so inconsiderate? Do they not think that they are doing anything wrong, or does it just not phase them?
This morning, I got on the bus and sat in my normal spot. I get on early enough in the route so that I have my pick of the seats. Eventually, as it always does, the bus got filled and there was standing room only. Every day, there is an elderly man who gets on the bus about ten minutes from University Station. He has a cane and it is very difficult for him to stand or walk. Well this morning, he got on and there were no seats. The seats in the front of the bus are supposed to be given up to an elderly or disabled individual when they get on. Well there is one young girl we gets on the bus and always sits up there. She refuses to give up her seat for ANYONE. The man had to ask her if he could sit down and she said no. I was outraged. This girl is probably no older than 30 and has no physical ailments whatsoever, and she still would not give up her seat.
I was about to stand up and give the man my seat, halfway down the bus...but then someone yelled at the girl and she moved. Does she realize how bad that looks on her?
Every day people amaze me. Just when you think someone couldn't be more selfish or rude, they prove you wrong.

I had a very nice birthday weekend. Besides the fact that I am a bit under the weather, it was fantastic. My husband cooked dinner on Saturday night and we had my in laws and my dad over. It was wonderful. Yesterday we went to my mom's and then out for the Superbowl. The weekends really go by way too quickly.
